Silent Night; The Song From Heaven

'Stille Nacht' ('Silent Night')--'the song from heaven'--now sung around the world in nearly 100 languages--was created in 1818, in the small town of Oberndorf, Austria, because mice had chewed a hole in the church organ's bellows. With a broken organ and only a few hours left before the Christmas Eve service, Father Mohr and Franz Gruber worked to find a way to bring music to their little church in Austria, the beloved carol 'Silent Night' came to be written as a message of hope and peace which has been shared through the world.

Silent Night

Silent night, holy night,
All is calm, all is bright,
Round yon virgin mother and child,
Holy infant so tender and mild,
Sleep in heavenly peace, Sleep in heavenly peace,

Silent night, holy night,
Shepherds first saw the light,
Heard resounding clear and long,
Far and near, the angel song:
Christ the Saviour is here,
Christ the Saviour is here.

Silent night, holy night,
Son of God, oh, how bright
Love is smiling from thy face,
Peals for us the hour of grace.
Christ our Saviour is born,
Christ our Saviour is born.
